This year for Locum Tenens Week, we asked our providers to share their stories. Check out this locum tenens story from Dr. Valerie Jones:

I became a locum tenens provider because: I wanted to keep my clinical skills sharp while I pursued a primarily non-clinical career. However, now I enjoy locums work because it allows me the flexibility to be a caregiver for a sick family member.

I improve lives working locum tenens by: Standing in the gap in rural and underserved areas.

Something I will never forget is: The love and gratitude that patients share is what drives me. I've had the pleasure of being a part of many recovery stories across the country during my locums work. From treating a patient who was gored by a bison in Yellowstone National Park, to healing a young sky-diver who crashed into a mountain, to founding a COVID rehab in California and cheering as patients were discharged home after months in the hospital... There's no greater job satisfaction than helping patients regain hope and function, and achieve their goals in life.

Additional Information: One of my favorite locums memories was when I was treating this lady for her bison injuries, I went to a local restaurant after work that offered "bison carpaccio." So I ordered it and took a picture and brought it back to my patient the next day. I told her I had gotten even for her last night. The smile on her face was priceless.
